Rare-The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott with Hidden Fore-edge Painting
Antique The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott with hidden Fore-Edge Painting! This is a stunning, full leather book… with a unique custom binding. It has decorative medallions on the front and a decorative spine. Overall it is in amazing condition for its age!
It was published in London by Frederick Warne and Co. and it contains original illustrations or portraits on steel throughout.
*The original painting on the fore-edge was done by an artist at the Royal Scottish Academy, it states this at the front of the book underneath the bookplate. It says it was owned by Maurice Kaufmann M.D. The painting shows a beautiful view from a downtown street, with a horse and carriage and some people walking… it looks to be an older time period. You can see amazing buildings in the background with pillars and ornate detailing. Books with these paintings are very rare because they are one of a kind. The artists would fan out the pages and paint this on a book and these were usually made as gifts to give to someone special. They will only increase in value over time.
