Rare Antique Poems of Mrs. Hemans with Hidden Fore-edge Painting
Rare- Antique Poems of Mrs. Hemans, with a beautiful hidden fore-edge painting! This is a very rare, custom fine binding with a one of a kind fore-edge painting of a coastal view or cityscape from the water! It was published in London by George Routledge and Sons. It is bound in a stunning emerald green leather, with ornate gold detailing all over! This is one of my favorite bindings I have ever seen… it is very unique! I love that this is a Female Author from this time period… Felicia Dorothea Hemans (25 September 1793 – 16 May 1835) was an English poet (who identified as Welsh by adoption). Regarded as the leading female poet of her day, Hemans was immensely popular during her lifetime in both England and the United States, and was second only to Lord Byron in terms of sales.
*The painting is a coastal view, that shows a city landscape in the background and boats in the harbor… you can see the city reflecting on the waters. There is also a little patch of land off to the right with people standing there… It is very well done and in beautiful shape! There is very little fading and the colors are bright! This is one of my favorite paintings I have seen on a book!
