1742 “Office of the Holy” In Italian!! Containing vulgar rubrics, the topics of the psalms, the explanation of the ceremonies and mysteries, with observations and devout reflections… by Alessandro Mazzinelli. This was published in Rome by the Vatican Pontifical. It is written all in Italian and I have translated some of it to read myself. There are some red letters throughout the book, to highlight important religious text and it is filled with 22 of the most amazing copper engravings from the 18th century! This is truly a one of a kind book and a true treasure! It is bound in full red calf leather, it has stunning double metal latches and when you fan the pages out… they have a rare hidden marbling on the fore edge! super unique… I almost thought this was hidden script or text, but I think it is just the pattern of the marbling. This book has it all… it is just absolutely amazing and in great condition for its age!! *There is also a very unique woodcut devotional scene printed on thin carmine cloth placed in the book, like a bookplate! This is very rare & one of a kind! **It is very difficult to find any books written in Italian from before the 1960s in America… mainly due to the strict laws Italy has to preserve their history and antiques. Italy has a strong tradition of protecting its cultural heritage, including books and manuscripts. This protection extends to the export of such items. That is why I do not find antique books written in Italian very often. So this is a Rare Gem.
