**The Rivière Bindery saw great success in London’s West End from 1840 onwards. Collectors sought him out for his high quality and attention to detail, and he was commissioned to bind books for Queen Victoria and the royal family. Established by Robert Riviere in Bath in 1829 and later relocated to London in 1840, becoming a prominent luxury bookbinder until its acquisition by Bayntun's in 1939. The firm was known for its high-quality, detailed leather bindings, elaborate gold tooling, and rich decorative elements, including distinctive styles like Cosway bindings with inset miniatures. Books are often stamped with a "Riviere" or "Riviere & Son" signature, which helps to date them.
