Stunning Set of 1892 The Military Novels of Charles Lever. This is a set of 9 books total… they were published in Boston by the Little, Brown and Company. They contain illustrations by Cruikshank and Phiz. Both illustrators are well known for illustrating books for Charles Dickens.. *George Cruikshank was a British caricaturist and book illustrator, praised as the “modern Hogarth” during his life. His book illustrations for his friend Charles Dickens, and many other authors, reached an international audience. *Hablot Knight Browne was a British artist and illustrator. Well known by his pen name, Phiz, he illustrated books by Charles Dickens, Charles Lever, Augustus Septimus Mayhewand and Harrison Ainsworth. This set has the most beautiful and unique leather spines, with bugle horns on them. They also have a marbled board front and matching end papers. Overall they are in great condition for their age!
