1813 The Common Place Book or Companion to The Old & New Testament
1813 The Common Place Book: Or, Companion to the Old & New Testament: Being A Scripture Account of The Faith & Practice of Christians: Consisting of an Ample Collection of Pertinent Texts on the Sundry Articles of Revealed Religion by Joseph Strutt. This was published in London for J. Hatchard, Bookseller to Her Majesty. It is bound in full calf leather… with a unique “diced calf” cover! This technique was difficult to do, so it makes it special! It also has thicker paper that almost feels hand made… it is a gorgeous book!! The fore-edge has a blue marbling pattern on it.
This book is a collection of pertinent biblical texts, organized to serve as a guide to Christian faith and practice. It acted as a topical scripture-based reference, drawing together key verses to provide a cohesive account of revealed religion, similar to how early preachers and theologians used florilegia to compile scripture for sermons.
