1767 German Catholic Devotional with Silver Hardware & Clasp
This 1767 German Catholic Devotional is absolutely stunning! It is bound in full red Morocco leather… with ornate silver hardware & a clasp! It is by Capuchin Friar Martin Von Cochem and was written as a practical guide to prayer, meditation, and religious instruction. Cochem’s writings became some of the most widely read devotional books in Catholic Europe, and this title is among his most enduring, printed with illustrations of biblical and spiritual themes.
The spine is personalized in gilt with the name of its previous owner, “Maria Anna Kellerin 1812”. The book features gauffered edges and the clasp has the initials A M W engraved on the inside. This could have possibly been the initials of the goldsmith… The book includes 12 full page engravings and a frontispiece and there is a lovely hand written note inside! The first few pages are filled with hand written notes, detailing the family births of the Kellerin Family.
I believe the hardware may be sterling… but there are no markings on it.
**This is a very rare book with custom details… It is one of a kind! Please keep this in mind.
