Rare- Latin Miniature Leather Book from 1631, Titled “The Right Intentions of All Human Actions by Jesuit Writer and Theologian Jeremias Drexel or Hieremias Drexelius. It has a few Engravings throughout the book and a hand written inscription at the front of the book. The first page or two are pretty worn from use and age… it’s almost 400 years old!
This is a religious or theological work, as indicated by the author's affiliation with the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and the nature of the approval. It includes a dedication to Maximilian, Archidapifer and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire, and his wife Elisabeth, Countess Palatine of the Rhine. The book appears to be a work of history or philosophy, based on the visible text which discusses Demaratus, the exiled Spartan king, and his interaction with Xerxes, the king of Persia.
**Jeremias Drexel, S.J. (also known as Hieremias Drexelius or Drechsel) (15 August 1581–19 April 1638) was a Jesuit writer of devotional literature and a professor of the humanities and rhetoric. He served for 23 years as court preacher in Munich to Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria and his wife Elizabeth of Lorraine.
