Rare 1811 The Minstrel & Other Poems by James Beattie

Rare 1811 The Minstrel & Other Poems by James Beattie

Beautiful, Rare 1811 Copy of The Minstrel; Or, The Progress of Genius: with other Poems, many of which including the translations are now reprinted from the scarce copies and are not to be found in any other edition by James Beattie, L.L.D. This copy was printed by J.M’Creery at Black Horse- Court in London. It contains the Life of Dr. Beattie and his works.
This is a more rare copy because it is bound in a beautiful blue leather, with a basket weave pattern!! I don’t often see this patterning and it is very well done on this book… top notch! It also has some beautiful detailing around the edges and a decorative spine! There is a little wear on the cover, but overall it is in amazing condition for its age!! The binding is nice and tight.
This is a wonderful book for any collector that is looking to add something very unique!

James Beattie was a Scottish poet, moralist and philosopher. He was an amateur cellist and member of the Aberdeen Musical Society. He considered questions of music philosophy in his essay On Poetry and Music (written 1762, published 1776), which was republished several times and translated into French in 1798. His poem “The Hermit” was set to music by Tommaso Giordani in 1778.
