1832 Pompeii Books Illustrated
1832 Pompeii Books Illustrated
1832 Pompeiana: The Topography, Edifices and Ornaments of Pompeii, The Result of Excavations since 1819 by Sir William Gell. This is complete in two volumes and was published in London. Both books are heavily illustration with full page engravings and a few Chromolithographs! They have decorative black leather spines and marbled board fronts. They are overall in great condition for their age!
This is a rare set because it does have a special provenance… these were owned by William Paton, as stated on the bookplate at the front of the books. I believe this was William Andrew Paton, American Accountancy Scholar… known for founding the American Accounting Association in 1916. I do have research on him, that will come with the book.
I absolutely love the engraving in this set… they are so stunning and have so much depth to them! If you love Italian art and architecture… this is the book for you!!
